Episode 398 - Danny Lobell

Danny Lobell hosted the first comedy podcast in history, so he has a lot of notes to compare with Marc on his visit to the garage. Danny also talks with Marc about the transition in his life that affected his comedy and why he feels his belief in God is at odds with the comedy world. Marc, for the love of YHWH, seek out one straight-shooting friend or acquaintance who will argue against your engagement. Listening to you talk about it, especially knowing what you’ve already been through, is like watching a(n angry) lamb being led to slaughter.

Remember the Dave Foley interview where you were asking him in amazement, “But where were your friends during all this? Why didn’t they say anything? Surely they saw what was going on?”

You’ve rebuilt your life over the last few years and it would be sad to see you voluntarily steer your ships into the rocks again, brother.

^^ dude . . . he’s blinded by love . . . happens to the best of us.

“DON’T GET MARRIED MARC” - Signed, teenage recluse podcast aficionado.

Cruise June 17, 2013 at 6:52 pm

Wow, with well-wishers like these…  I know you mean the best, but it really is none of your fucking businesses.  And don’t give me the “well he puts it out there on the podcast…” but, unless you know their relationship on a daily basis, you have no objective criteria upon whoch to make such negative statements.  It’s also fucking insulting to his partner.

loafward June 17, 2013 at 11:01 pm

Ask yourself, Maron, “What would Woody Allen’s character do?” Then do that as best you can.

Watch all those great couples films of his again; watch how he negotiates with women. And cut back on some of the language while negotiating with her: “You do what you want, but sweetie you really are missing out on some great buffalo.”

Shimbles June 18, 2013 at 2:58 am

A bigger insult to his partner is the fact that… she’s his partner. ‘S’on her, bra.

Joe Tily June 18, 2013 at 8:18 am

ooooh, Cruise is the internet Comment-Police apparently. Watch what you type everyone, there isn’t any room for negative comments on the WTF website . . . . Officer Cruise says so.

Dave Foley June 18, 2013 at 2:14 pm

I agree with Goy Who Likes Jews.

Take another listen to my interview Episode 146, specifically around the 1:05:00 mark.

Cruise June 18, 2013 at 5:18 pm

Another mature response from Joe Tilly- another internet troll who’s sex-life is probably as varied and mature as his sense of humour.

Cruise June 18, 2013 at 5:21 pm

Used “who’s” rather than “whose”.  Did anyone apart from me spot the deliberate mistake?  Joe Tilly probably didn’t.

Joe Tily June 19, 2013 at 3:22 am

Oh, i see . . . anyone who responds to one of Officer Cruise’s comments with light sarcasm gets called a troll, has their sex-life called into question and their grasp of grammar criticized. Seems like you’re the one behaving like a troll Officer Cruise. You internet Comment-Police are a touchy bunch . . . . !!

It’s funny, I was just listening to the Nick Lowe again, that’s the one where Jessica berates Marc about his driving and Marc says “STFU what are we, fifty? ... sixty-five?” But yeah, Dave Foley.

Excited about next week.

hey marc, I am a jew living in israel and I like the jew episodes. this one made me laugh. I listen on the bus in jerusalem. i think you have a good handle on the jewish issues. i liked what you had to say about the passover seder.

SweetDennyP June 23, 2013 at 8:31 am

BTW I am a Gentile who also.loves listening in on the Jewy stuff.

About Marc’s engagement. The best marriage advice I ever received but failed to listen to: ” A good marriage has room for only one crazy person. If you can’t be the crazy one, get the fuck out.”

CanadaKen July 02, 2013 at 3:00 am

Loved it, very funny and interesting guy.

Marc. Do what you want.
I was walking up the hill to the store, in the rain, when I had work at home that I should have been doing while my girlfriend Bekah lay at home, in bed, feeling miserable. I was going to get her some ice cream and a piece of cake that she did not ask me to get for her, because I thought it would make her happy.
As i went I was listening to the intro to this show, and I got bummed out when you told about the argument. And I smiled when you said that even though you two were storming off, you kept her in sight. Good guy. And then, on my way home, you patched it up! Like a grown up. Like two grown ups! Happy ending for you guys.
And then, right as i was opening my door, you mentioned the reading at The Brattle and said “Thanks for the cookies, thanks for the comic books”.
I played it for Bekah as she was getting up to come have ice cream with me.
You thanked her for the cookies she made, and you thanked me for the comics I made.
Then we just sat there eating ice ream and marveling at how cool it is to be thanked for the stuff we made on our favorite podcast.
You’re welcome.
And thank you.

I just listened to this after hearing Danny on another podcast and googling him. Great interview Marc. What a really interesting and insightful talk you guys had. I learned a bit from this about Jews and enjoyed the old comedian stories. Great one.
