Such a great show, Marc, and thanks for introducing me to The Eels. When I heard Mark play that song, I knew I’d found my new favourite band.

I saw them in Dublin last saturday, second of the concerts there. What i really apreciate more from the show, was the very nice atmosphere the band created in the Olympia, starting by themselves. Then, the musical marriage with the piper…brutal! Hope to see you again in Madrid for the final european concert. Keep a ticket for me!

Love his world view. Accept life for what it is, warts and all, but try to find a bit of happiness where you can, Halfway through this interview I had to stop and go listen to the old Eels song “Rage to Rags”.

Great interview! I also highly recommend watching the documentary Mark did about his father, it is quite good, even if you don’t really care about physics:  http://vimeo.com/58603054

Agree with Ryan. An interesting and well-done documentary. Highly recommended.

Another great interview Sir!  One note: E’s backing band are all musicians from Portland, Oregon… not LA studio pros. The Eels are a GREAT gig,but contrary to E’s comment about “turning nobodies into somebodies”, these guys have all played with great bands before E. Lucinda Williams, Earlimart and others as well as a TON of great west coast/Portland bands. Oh, and nice blues riffing on your guitar here and there Marc!

I’ve seen both these men live. Maron stole the show from Rollins (hard to do) and E is so underrated as a musician, lyricist, writer and just fucking sexy man!

Rob March 22, 2013 at 3:25 pm

You can add “Whip-smart writing” to the things you’d never hear Maron actually say.

Great episode overall though

A really wonderful way to spend a Sunday evening - listening to the show, sipping wine, sitting with my tops family. Seeing Eels twice while in UK, London done and super enjoyed.
Nottingham to come.
