I feel like she has a severe intelligence deficit

grind March 14, 2013 at 12:55 pm

...ah, hell man,
just gimme some…
- all right…

: (

tkewley March 14, 2013 at 1:12 pm

She seems like exactly the sort of person who would marry Hedberg - that is the kindest way I can think to put it. If she said “like” many more times, I was going to attempt to reach through the Internet and strangle her with my bare hands.

J.R. March 14, 2013 at 1:25 pm

...and this is your brain on drugs. Favorite part of the interview, “When we got arrested in Texas or when he got arrested and I just hang out”. I wonder if she is as dumb as she appears to be or if her brain got fucked up by all those drugs.

Matt(midwest) March 14, 2013 at 3:18 pm

why the hate? its not like shes your mother wink

Pete_G March 14, 2013 at 5:28 pm

Wow… some heavy topics here, man. My respect to her to for opening up about not only the drug past but about losing Mitch. I kind of got the sense that it wasn’t at all easy for her to talk about. Maybe it’s just me, but perhaps where some [here] interpret a lack of intelligence, others might imagine how intimidating it might be to talk into a funckin microphone about your dead husband. Hmm… expressing empathy… yeah… fuck me, right?

P.S. Marc, always love it when you open up with guests you have history with… your sordid past never fails to entertain. All the best on the book launch!

Michael P. Gowdy March 14, 2013 at 5:34 pm

Marc, you’re *still* sick? Ugh, man.

Justin March 14, 2013 at 6:01 pm

Once again the baffling hatred for nearly any female comic who attained any kind of success or opportunity.
I’m calling this the ‘Take that Mindy Kaling!’ phenom.

Look, I think if anyone was listening closely they could understand this interview was a whole layer or two deeper than usual. She was locked-up and in a bit of shock and trying to get out a door, she was confused (shock, high-anxiety does this).

I’m surprised so many of you bright liberal-progressive minds couldn’t quite pick up just what a deep struggle was going on with her.
Nope.. go for the hate (as usual).

James March 14, 2013 at 7:00 pm

Wish she felt more comfortable with herself. A great interview anyway.

Matt(midwest) March 14, 2013 at 7:11 pm

No worrys, like my comment eluded to, they hate there mom and themselves, they hate anything resembling that part of themselves they find weak according to there perception of what weak is, or what a particular perception of weak has meant for them personally.
they are just screaming at themselves, discovering how it feels to be that guy, possibly feeling remorse for having been.

Thomas Thomas Thomas March 14, 2013 at 8:16 pm

Thanks for sharing the stories, Mark and Lynn. I miss Mitch.

TheKid March 14, 2013 at 8:29 pm

This episode reminded me of the movie “Airheads”. And don’t talk to me about the “female comic” bullshit. The Leslie Jones episode was great and the comment thread was all positive. Including mine. The ‘vulnerability” card is bullshit too. Proof of that is that the Mike White episode got a positive reception. Fact of the matter is that the woman was insufferable. That’s my opinion so deal with it. If it bothers you, too bad because nobody cares. I’m not one to leave negative comments but the troll police got me all riled up. They are worse than the actual trolls.

Justin March 14, 2013 at 8:39 pm

The Kid cares a lot about disapproval of his opinions.
Yep, there are exceptions for black female comics and the ‘Screw You Mindy Kaling’ phenom can be unpredictable (and may be justified by coincidence), however it remains true that a half dozens of the opinions here are some kind of nerd-rage over (you perceive) undeserved attention and rewards.
But here is something just as interesting - I notice that the appreciative commentators here are also the ones who DONATED FREELY TO THE PODCAST… and what has ‘TheKid’ donated here? NOT A SINGLE DIME!
There is probably some kind of guilt/overcompensation issues to be found there eh?

*oh and Kid - you should know a lot of negative comments are being deleted these days - so your lame survey doesn’t necessarily stand anyways.

Scottie March 14, 2013 at 9:04 pm

Mindy Kaling got comments about being annoying because she was annoying…as a pampered, vain person. It’s got fuck all to do with her sex. If you say otherwise, you are generalizing to make yourself feel superior.

This interview with Lynn Shawcroft was moving and powerful. Thank you Lynn for being so forthright and honest during this obviously difficult at times conversation. Thank you Marc for doing a tasteful and dexterous job. I love Mitch’s comedy and am really glad to get the background to his all-too-early demise from the woman who loved him. Thanks again to you both for this.

LolliePop March 14, 2013 at 9:35 pm

Dear Justin. How do you know these things, who donated money, etc? Are you the guy who runs this comment board or are you just a paranoid schizophrenic? If the latter, good luck and best wishes. If the former, don’t be so hyperactive and paranoid, buddy. Artists, actors, comics have thick skins, and Marc’s fan base is served better by having a lively and rollicking comment board, rather than a thought-policed forced happy-only land. Or completed deleted comments as happened a few weeks pack. (Keep deleting that racist fuck from a while ago, though. That got seriously old.) Either ditch the comment board totally or let people speak their opinions, pro and con. No guest is going to drop dead if he/she gets a bad comment. And none of Marc’s friends/guests will hate him because of a comment some stranger posts. Censorship is lame and unnecessary here. Sincerely, someone who loves the podcast.

Justin March 14, 2013 at 9:44 pm

I thought it was cute how Scottie and Lollipop tried to find ways to save face,
yet,
typical, talk like you are all against ‘the man’ and want all the freedom that suits you yet.. did either of you redistribute some cash to the podcast?
Nope.
Oh well.. suddenly our little college-boy smarty isn’t such a 99%er when it comes to the podcast you think you deserve free lol

LolliePop March 14, 2013 at 10:01 pm

What does the fact of someone donating money or not have to do with what I said about not censoring the comment board?
Is your point, Justin, either donate money to comment or shut up? I don’t remember seeing a notice that said that. Sorry if I missed it.

Justin March 14, 2013 at 11:16 pm

I will take that as a “No, I don’t donate to WTF but I like to take the product for free and criticize it”.

TheKid March 15, 2013 at 12:41 am

Justin give it up. You are only embarrassing yourself. You are coming off as a Maron’s unbalance psycho groupie. So relax man. Jerk off and go to sleep. Last thing I want to say is, I don’t donate to WTF but I like to take the product for free and criticize it. wink

Justin March 15, 2013 at 12:51 am

TheKid - stop trying to save face here by pretending you are suddenly an insult comic and like.. wow you’re totally winding this guy up!
You know better and I know better - you blew a gasket in here and you are embarrassed you take from the show and don’t donate a dime.
Tip: Just taking what I say and ‘turning it around’ (hoping it looks like these two guys are fighting) isn’t enough.
You know this and you know I know you know it.

smitty March 15, 2013 at 12:53 am

i liked her. she is a bit scattered, but not dumb. i did get the essence of a person, and i honor that. my heart sort of went out to her. btw- guys, please stop the bitch fest out here, what’s the point?

PS bitch,in this context, is all gender inclusive [for the un-hip among you]...

Justin March 15, 2013 at 1:44 am

Smitty - not sure why you are bitching and complaining but maybe all of you can knock it off for a while?

MichaelSweden March 15, 2013 at 6:15 am

I have listened to so many WTF episodes but never commented. So I start with a heartfelt thank you to Marc. Thank You Marc. About this podcast with Lynn, who I did not know of beforehand, I felt after listening it seemed that despite her apprehension to be on the show, that this was good for her and also (going back to perhaps some of the original reasons MArc even started this show) good for Marc to summarize a lot of their common memories - and to revisit some pretty tough (and fun) aspects of their lives with Mitch Hedberg. So I come away from this feeling better in general and also with a feeling that she has had a burden lifted.

And now this is my comment: all you guys that are filling the comments column with these critical, mean, pointless, bullying and ignorant words—what are you doing? What good are you doing? Does it make you feel better? Do you feel closer to Marc by thinking you can out-intellectualize the guest? How can your first response be to hammer her against the wall?
Please go look in a mirror - happy with what you see?

TheKid March 15, 2013 at 8:36 am

Woops, I stroke a nerve. Sorry homie. But why would I be embarrassed? Do you know who I am? And all I said was that she sounded as dumb as a rock and I stand by it. Oh sorry. I have never donated so I can’t voice my opinion in a public forum. Can’t you see that basically you are just a douche-bag that can’t respect other people’s opinions? So what if I thought that woman was dumb and I didn’t cared about his sob story? It’s my fucking opinion. Is not like she was a cancer survivor or a political prisoner anyway. But how pretentious of you it is to assume why someone didn’t liked something and Lord Help Us All!!! If someone have a different point of view.

“Do you feel closer to Marc by thinking you can out-intellectualize the guest?” None of us are close to Marc. Not even “holier than thou” Justin, his biggest groupie.

In conclusion, none called this woman; Whore, Liar, Crazy, etc…Check the comments and all they basically say is that she didn’t appeared to be the sharpest knife in the drawer. Which is not an unfounded opinion (weather is wrong or right) to anyone that listen to the podcast. So to all of you holier than thou types, get of your high horses before you fall and break your necks. You are all too sensitive.
                                                                                                    TheKid

Logan March 15, 2013 at 9:18 am

This whole thread is lame.

Todd from Minneapolis March 15, 2013 at 9:23 am

For what she’s been through, she sounds perfectly bright and interesting. Overseeing MItch’s legacy must be strange/problematic, given she shared the life that killed him.

jim March 15, 2013 at 2:57 pm

@Justin Marc just interviewed Leslie Jones and she was great! No one said anything bad about her. And I like most of the female comics that Marc has interviewed. So if you critique one or two female comics you hate all female comics? Pretty one sided and total nonsense. Besides out fo most of the female comics Mindy Kaling DID come off as one dimensional and flaky. There I said it. By the way Mindy Kaling does not = ALL Female comics.

bleedingears March 15, 2013 at 3:43 pm

This is typical Justin bullshit, folks. His guy lost in November, so he’s eager to turn everything into a political argument. He’s a funny little thing, but don’t engage.

Justin March 15, 2013 at 4:23 pm

Here’s what’s even more ironic and/or douchey: Almost every one of the women-haters on here who’s discovered there is no ‘rule’ saying they must donate to WTF - almost all of them are working on their own comedy podcasts which they imagine will one day be supported by donations. Most of these guys have agree ‘all we’re asking is the rich pay their fair share!’. Double the irony level - Lynn Shawcroft, having her young husband die, losing a career and quitting drugs is actually 10 times more well-adjusted and twice as strong as these liberal hypocrites judging her!

LolliePop March 15, 2013 at 4:40 pm

Ah… Thanks for the info. I’m new here and didn’t realize Justin was a right-wing fruitcake troll. I feel silly for interacting with him, even a little. Sorry everyone. Justin, go fuck yourself. Marc and Lynn, thank you again for this brave and moving interview. That’s what it’s all about. Love to everyone (except Justin the nutjob). Kisskiss.

Justin March 15, 2013 at 5:47 pm

Lollie is ‘sorry’ to find out its the right-wing conservatives who actually donate - and left-wing hypocrites like her who take and take but won’t even donate a dime to one of their own. Oh that has to stew a little more anticonservative hatred inside you lollie lol
(what’s hilarious is you offered ‘hugs and kisses’ because hey mannn… those are more important than money mannn (that you won’t part with))

Guest March 15, 2013 at 6:08 pm

Mindy K. is just like her character on the Office, and that was disappointing to learn. Right wing dead enders on the internet, that is only to be expected.

Justin March 15, 2013 at 7:47 pm

You expect right-wingers will be on the internet encouraging you to ‘put up or shut up’ about your lack of donations to WTF?
no you didn’t expect that. But hey.. keep hating a brown woman you left-wing hypocrite.

Guest March 15, 2013 at 8:00 pm

I expect right wingers to fleck spit, of course, about whatever it is that got them riled up that day. Some like to project what strangers are or aren’t doing with their money. Others are upset that the First Lady is a brown woman. I see all kinds.

Justin March 15, 2013 at 8:58 pm

Guest - how much money have you donated to the WTF podcast?

Charles Martin Reed March 15, 2013 at 9:51 pm

The cruelty of some of your commenters aside (seriously Marc, thanks for reminding me that an artist should never be too precious about the “sanctity” of their art as it will inevitably be consumed by fools and the wise alike…), I really enjoyed the episode. I found it touching that, despite the considerable amount of guilt that Lynn has internalized about the events behind Mitch’s death, she actually brought herself to reminisce about the time they spent together. I hope that she’ll eventually gain a bit of closure and perspective on the events and come to understand that she too was victimized by the same dark impulses as Mitch. That she lived to tell the story does not lessen her struggles nor does it cast her in the role of villain.

On a lighter note, I also enjoyed the My Bloody Valentine shout-out! I know, I know, what a weird thing to note.

smitty March 15, 2013 at 10:25 pm

it’s funny how right wingers love to accuse the left of hypocrisy, since no one can reasonably accuse the right of hypocrisy; because it would be like accusing a fish of having a proclivity for water. they live it 24/7.

“i’m a republican and i’m a hypocrite” .... “i’m a thief and i love to steal” “i’m the sun,i rise in the east” “i’m chinese, and i speak chinese”[not the best choice, because other dialects are spoken too]. but you get the idea ..... redundant repubs are fools…

Justin March 15, 2013 at 11:32 pm

Smitty;
Simple two part question:
- How many WTF Episodes have you listened to?
- How much money have you donated to WTF?

Simple answer is…. ?

smitty March 16, 2013 at 12:01 am

justin-
.....simple answer is…. irrelevant. my observation stands on it’s own, apart from your inane fussbudgetting over trivial particulars. i’m not addressing donation, nor do i have to in order to validate my point.

Justin March 16, 2013 at 12:10 am

Smitty’s answer:
  NONE

Listens to podcast, uses the bandwidth, uses forum to spew hate at conservatives and donated a grand total of:

ZERO
NOTHING
NOT EVEN A DAMN DOLLAR VIA PAYPAL!

Good job Smitty!

Guest March 16, 2013 at 5:29 am

Justin - it’s honestly none of your fucking business what anyone donates to anything. That is the only reasonable answer to your spastic invasive behavior.

Justin March 16, 2013 at 6:24 am

Guest - one simple question:
How many WTF podcasts (and Marc’s bandwidth) have you taken?
and
How much money have you ever donated to WTF?

*nobody knows who you are - so it won’t be anyones ‘business’ what ‘you’ have done or rather not done.

So how much?

smitty March 16, 2013 at 12:27 pm

so, clarence thomas is exempt from hate, because, “he be black”.........that shit is hilarious. that crap is called, inverted ideologic’less “affirmative action”. so, i guess by that logic, if ann coulter, throws justin’s pet black mamba out the window[it’s a black mamba, memba’; so that proves he ain’t no racist, wink-wink],he must still, worhship satans anorexic devil-daughter,because after all, she’s from the “hood”, [ie pointed white dunce caps…]

Kyle In Brooklyn March 16, 2013 at 3:16 pm

From the early comments I was bracing myself for a difficult interview.
In fact, I enjoyed it. Some great history there.
The comments, on the other hand….

catnap March 17, 2013 at 11:16 am

For me part of what makes listening to a Marc Maron interview such a wonderous experience is that he always seems to be in such a deep state of acceptance when it comes to his guests. It must be how he is able to create such an atmosphere of honesty and vulnerability.

So many of the comments, however, seem to be all attack and counter attack––attack the guest and then attack the guest’s attackers and so on until everything that is wonderful and true about the show has descended into this noisy cruelty and chaos.

Is this how it is done nowadays? I am not a young person and not a huge internet commenter myself, but I love, love, love Marc Maron’s show, and it just seems to start from such a very, different place than this particular comment thread has ended up.

I’ve been thinking about those cabbages and carrots for days now. I want to say that maybe the answer is as simple as, yes, cabbages and carrots, do, indeed, have their heavenly connections.

It’s OK to be kind. Maybe it’s OK to accept the guest just as she is and in doing so, perhaps we’ll be able to better accept ourselves.

Ntt March 17, 2013 at 3:30 pm

Catnap, welcome to the internet.

grind March 18, 2013 at 10:27 am

how can all of you be arguing -

we must find the Dufranes!

Joe Tily March 18, 2013 at 11:02 am

A lot of you guys are full of it. That was a great episode. Sure, she has a really bad case of the ‘Like’ - but then a lot of people nowadays do that (along with the ‘You Know?’). I thought Lynn was quite brave to do an interview that she was clearly very nervous about doing. Thanks Marc!

The Dude March 18, 2013 at 2:32 pm

Wow. Just finished the thing. My brain hurts. The pace and tone of Lynn’s speech were a bit hard to handle. It didn’t seem like there was a lot of mental processing going on, but maybe it was a mix of nervousness and the touchy subject of Mitch’s life and death. Either way, Marc—you were enjoyable to listen to, your contributions are always sensible, witty, and give me the impression that you care about your guest. Keep up the good work.

I love Mitch Hedberg’s comedy.

Grant March 19, 2013 at 10:37 pm

Very enjoyable interview. Always nice hearing about Mitch. Plus, great job on the menu writing in Los Enchiladas. Hopefully that film gets a proper release I can buy some day. In other subjects: preorder/release date on the audio version of your book soon?

alice tripp March 21, 2013 at 5:38 am

I feel like being mean because of your gangrene comment followed by a chuckle. Remember that Morgan Spurlock day in the life thing? You were pleased with it. You thought J’s croak from the bedroom was the best part. No. It got worse. When you were driving to the gig the camera captured the grey hair in your right ear. It was long enough that you should have taken care of it months prior. No person has ever looked less sexy sitting in that carload of people as it arrives at the ranch and you look over at the camera. Cut. “I think it went great, people.” Yep. Regardless of IFC pass or fail, you suck sometimes, and always will. Buy a magnifying mirror and stay humble.

Patrick July 07, 2013 at 12:34 pm

This Justin sycophant is far more bothersome than any troll or ungrateful naysayer I’ve read on this site.
This is the same type of delusional little jerk who tells people they cannot complain about the state of politics if they don’t vote. Piss off, wee gatekeeper. Silly man.

Reminds one of that scene in ‘Fargo’...
Carl Showalter: Yeah, I decided not to park here.
Attendant: What do you mean? You decided not to park here?
Carl Showalter: Yeah, I just came in. I decided not to park here.
Attendant: You, uh… I’m sorry, sir, but -
Carl Showalter: I decided not to - I’m, uh, not taking the trip as it turns out.
Attendant: I’m sorry, sir, we do have to charge you the four dollars.
Carl Showalter: I just pulled in here. I just fuckin’ pulled in here!
Attendant: Well, see, there’s a minimum charge of four dollars. Long-term parking charges by the day.
Carl Showalter: I guess you think, ya know, you’re some kind of an authority figure. With that stupid fucking uniform. Huh, buddy? King Clip-on Tie here. Big fucking man….huh? You know, these are the limits of your life, man. Ruler of your little fucking gate here. There’s your four dollars, you pathetic piece of shit.

James Harries December 06, 2013 at 9:24 am

Fantastic interview - where else would you hear an interviewer talk honestly about taking drugs and actually have done them himself! Incredible really.
Also, people could learn from Marc’s example of not judging, it really makes you a happier person you know!

Dewey Oxburger January 25, 2014 at 3:08 am

Wow , first time I ever had the chance to peruse a wtf? podcast board. Some rather unbalanced and or quite aggressive folks here isn’t there. You kid’s all enjoy pissing in your sandbox seeing who’s is bigger and what not , I have little interest in engaging in that. What I was hoping was clarification from a helpful listener. Early in the interview they discuss an unreleased film. Marc ask’s her “when the fuck” she was going to release it. I went back a dozen times and still can’t quite make out the name of it. I looked up a few things I thought were said for the title but got no returns. In the modern internet age no returns at all seemed odd , so I must be hearing it wrong. So yeah , that’s all what is the title of that unreleased flick? O.K. kid’s , you can go back to your verbal blood sport again , thank’s for your time.

Marc, your recent Billy Wayne Davis episode prompted me to give this episode another listen, and in the process a firm reminder of why I sometimes stray but never abandon your work.

Fucking excellent work, man. Empathic, honest, engaged, raw . . . Nowhere else can I seem to find this sort of experience. Thank you.
