enjoyed this alot.  my highschool also had the “Highlander” as a mascot and the marching band played bagpipes and wore kilts.  Really interesting hearing about Rainn’s family history and religion. thanks marc!

This interview left me wanting more by virtue of it being such an entertaining conversation.  I was amazed to discover that a full hour had passed while listening.  My only thought when things came to a close was “Why are they wrapping this one up so early?”

Hey Marc, a lot of lefties tuned out once Clinton got the presidency too.

Did you see how all of that turned out?

Obama won the presidency, we didn’t.  The fight is FAR from over.

Alright!  THAT’S what I’m talkin’ ‘bout!  Rainn Wilson has a brain and he’s not afraid to use it.

Go back and watch ‘Almost Famous’. There are so many unknowns who went on to become famous. It’s crazy.
Another great episode. Thanks!

Nato Green doesn’t make me feel sad, he just makes me mad. It’s a bad sign when you think someone’s act would be BETTER if it were preachier. His jokes just come across self-aggrandizing and smug.

Interesting guy, but it’s a little hard to take seriously his claims for the SoulPancake experience. The site is a special place where people with different viewpoints engage intelligently and respectfully, but the founder dismisses a mass of people that he disagrees with as evil “tongue chewers.” (This was only slightly less inappropriate than his Marx Bros. reference re:Office-style comedy, btw, but he seemed to recognize the non sequitur in that case and corrected for it a bit.)

Another question, maybe a good one for SoulPancake’s bulletin board… is it really a matter of the hyper-intelligent pop-culture consumers/creators vs. the apes? Has Marc framed the wider culture justly here, even his corner of it, or has casual bigotry simply fogged up our glasses lately?

” . . . I’m not Mr. Shakespeare hand-job guy . . . “

Great conversation. I loved him mentioning Marc’s back of the toilet door magazines - another funny snippet of ‘Cat Ranch’ trivia . . .

I’m pretty sure you’re on the trip you need to be on.  The “inner corkscrew” has jacked you into something bigger than you’ve ever known before, as an artist or a person.

Those hasidim are not at the Western Wall 24 hours a day. Try going there at 3 AM. Orthodox Jews do pray 3 times a day (morning, afternoon, night), but not all the time. Also, not all Orthodox Jews are ultra-Orthodox (haredi), and not all haredim are hasidim.
After hearing Rainn interviewed on Fresh Air, I had a chance to visit the Bahai Gardens in Haifa. They are really amazing, and it’s always cool to hear him talk about his faith.

I loved Rainn in the movie Hesher. It was a completely different role for him and he nailed it.

“We try to do the best with what God’s given us” Oh fuck off, Rainn.
