Holy shit what a great interview!

Susan Cook September 19, 2011 at 1:02 pm

jimjim, you must have bought the very last POW! mug because they are now saying “sold out”. ;-(

Marc, there are so many great women comics out there and I’m always happy when you have them on.  Thanks.

Justin September 19, 2011 at 2:17 pm

Not sure why but this felt depressing and gave me some kind of unhappy sense of Lisa Lampenelli. One thing bothers me. Marc, in his crazy self-loathing still thinks his Chevy Chase roast was some kind of a failure? Uh no. Maron effing NAILED IT that night. I can watch that again and again on YT and he was absolutely perfect as it could get.

Meg September 19, 2011 at 2:30 pm

Marc, one of your best interviews. As you noted, Lisa isn’t for everyone, and frankly she has never really been for me. But I feel like I get her SO much better now, and I totally want to check out more of her stuff. You guys had such a great rapport.

Another week, another round of facile French bashing. Note to passportless Americans, not every Frenchman is Henri from Cheers!

Natalie September 19, 2011 at 5:03 pm

YES! one of my absolute favorite comedians…such as nice treat for a monday afternoon..can’t wait to listen. Thanks for this!

Julian September 19, 2011 at 6:35 pm

Anyone else think the constant “n-word” dropping going on WTF recently is a bit much? It seems like a white guy or gal drops it at least once a week. I don’t really have a problem with it when it’s funny (like Louie’s hilarious bit on it), but the constant navel-gazing and self-congratulatory use of the word is getting to be slightly discomforting.

Dig the show otherwise.

He said we’re supposed to wanna hang out here. If we do, we’ll need some cookies, coffee, I dunno, maybe some Entenmann’s danish from the day old bread store. Myself, I just my very old cat (18 *sigh*)  but I feel MM should include fresh virtual shirts, jackets, etc for the listener’s cats to throw up on. (I’d love to clic on a photo of MM’s or listener’s cats, and then they throw up) There could be a litterbox in the corner of the page that fills up the more comments a thread or page gets?
Now for the *fun* part.
I love Marc, I hate Marc, I love Marc, I hate Marc, I lo…

Anybody else having trouble downloading this episode in Itunes?

Gloria September 20, 2011 at 2:56 pm

Julian—yes.  And it’s getting really annoying.  Just because you think you’re “cool with color issues,” or because you “like f__cking black guys” doesn’t give you a pass.

GG September 20, 2011 at 3:26 pm

Hey Marc, I listened to your interview with Ms. Lampanelli because you normally don’t waste your time with hacks or the unfunny, but as usual she proved to be both.  Maybe it’s because I’m black but she has never ever been remotely interesting or watchable, and I can’t understand how she is being embraced by the likes or you, Bernhard etc. I wish this interview had been more in the vein of the Dane Cook/Mencia, but I felt you held back a bit due to her obvious pathetic need to be accepted.  Love your show, hate that bitch, and my hate is real, unlike hers.

kara September 20, 2011 at 4:26 pm

this wtf episode is a great example of what takes this podcast beyond just one with interesting stories about/interviews with funny people: sometimes listening is a therapeutic experience for the listener. sometimes, while listening, the listener gains insight about his or her own life.

love what you do, marc!

FWIW, Lisa was conflating two articles in Vanity Fair.
One by professional gasbag Hitchens called “Why Women Aren’t Funny”

Followed up a few months later by, “Who Says Women Aren’t Funny”

Another incredibly compelling interview that really laid bare the gear works in the comedy machine. I actually like Lisa’s work in relatively small doses but don’t feel like (at least on TV) that this kind of material sustains an hour. I was fascinated to learn how she targeted her barbs to particular audience members. And as for an insult comic being so fearful of being on the butt end of others’ jokes, I was touched by her vulnerability yet also appalled by her self-absorption and narcissm. Can’t standing the heat yet staying in the kitchen. I guess that’s what makes people create.
And yes, I think dropping the N word should be rethought. Even if you’re reflexive about it, you run the risk of validating the thing you criticize.

Steve Hatchett September 21, 2011 at 3:45 pm

I use the word nigger only when it applies.

RB September 21, 2011 at 3:54 pm

On the n-word discussion, it just doesn’t sound right when white people say it.  While people have a right to say anything they want, short of hate speech, I don’t think it helps the performance of most white comics, and just sounds crude and uncomfortable. I think Hicks managed to pull it off in his routine about officer n—-hater beating Rodney King; but that’s the only example I can point to, where it made sense comedically.

OMG,  i’ve been expecting this episode like forever !  Lisa is my fav all time and im wondering when can Marc gets Lisa on ?  Till last nite i checked the new episode i was like ‘WTF ?!’ .

thx for the great show , Marc,  i’ve cracked up so many time while hearing it . the best part is when Lisa goes ’ i never make French jokes cuz i fucking hate them ...  OMG , fuck Europeans ..’

Catseye September 22, 2011 at 2:13 pm

I’m not very familiar with Lisa’s act, but from what little of it I’ve seen, it’s pretty thin on material.  I first saw her on some roast, not Chevy Chase’s, and all she did was use profanity and talk about her vagina.  Seems like if she can’t be crude, she has nothing to say.  She’s got all kinds of issues and seems almost as pathetic as Andy Dick.
Good interview anyway.

Jcar September 22, 2011 at 6:10 pm

She’s one of the most unfunny comedians working today, I think. I don’t mind racial humor or using ethnic slurs in comedy provided it’s clever or says something interesting, but she just regurgitates racial slurs with absolutely no wit just for the cheap shock value of it.

I can write a Lisa Lampenelli set:

“Hey, how are you all niggers tonight?”

(wait for laughter)

“Are my spics here tonight?”

(wait for laughter)

“And where are my chinamen at?  Boy you all sure do have tiny penises”

(wait for laughter)

“Hey, you all want to hear about the time I had anal sex with a football player?”

(end)

Marc, am I one of the greats?  Am I?  Huh?  Sheesh.  If you have to ask for validation… it speaks volumes.

Juan Moreno September 27, 2011 at 7:07 pm

I love WTF!  Great interview.  I think the deference between her and some other comics is that I can sense Lisa is a good person and that she is joking.  She is outrageous but charming.  With comics like Carlos Mencia his anger shows through.  As does something that I can not put my finger on, that makes me not laugh at Dane Cook.  I hope she comes back on in a future WTF.

ummmm November 29, 2011 at 2:07 am

I honestly dont know what to think of this cunt.
I kind of still hate her stupid ass and I think that’s how I’ll end it.

blop

hey fuckface November 29, 2011 at 2:18 am

you’re gonna have to give me some donuts or some shit if you expect me to sit through this entire shit.  Maybe it’s just the load speed and I’ll apologize if I’m wrong but I feel like Jerry Lewis with a cocked righer.  Someone shut this twat up!
