Episode 193 - Richard Lewis

Richard Lewis stops by the garage to break Marc’s chops, but he can take it as well as he can dish it out. He talks about his more than 40 years in comedy, the highs and lows that came with drug and alcohol addiction, and some remarkable encounters with Johnny Carson, Rodney Dangerfield and Bruce Springsteen. This episode is sponsored by Comedy Central.

Really looking forward to this - Curb Your Enthusiasm would not be the same without RL’s great chemistry with Larry David . . . . . . . . absolutely classic TV.

Out of the park!

Another great interview.  I looked up Morty Gunty on Youtube,  yeeesh!!!  Tough to watch.

A reference to gorp is one of those little reasons why I love this show. Anyone else ever hear that it refers to Good Old Raisins and Peanuts? Still in the monologue, and positive I’ll enjoy the Lewis interview. Am fascinated with his character on Curb.

Hey, thanks, Marc.

James July 18, 2011 at 10:57 am

You know you’ve really hit the big time when you’ve interviewed Paul Reiser and Richard Lewis back-to-back.

Snaggles July 18, 2011 at 10:59 am

This guywas cracking me up all through the grocery store today. Did not know he was on Curb since I have found that to be a self-approbating piece of try-to-hard crap (just like Seinfeld). Maybe I’ll try to watch it though because Lewis comes across so funny because he’s genuine. Great podcast - I can really see the connection between you 2.

Rashid July 18, 2011 at 1:21 pm

You really got out-Maroned on that one. I love all you do!

bdawg July 18, 2011 at 3:51 pm

hell yeah homey, gotta take the bbq and fuck it in the grill-pussy sometimes, make it purr.  everyone loves ya for it.

Andrew July 18, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Another great episode, thanks Mark!

My first WTF,  sincerely hilarious, comedic purity, couldn’t have been more pleased that I tuned in…Thanks Marc!!!

Curious how much blowback you’re going to get from this Bachmann thing. Chances are the blood is in the water (vis a vis her campaign) and it’s not long before she’s done like Gingrich.

Holy shit, Richard Lewis is incredible.

Richard Lewis just taught me that honesty and not-giving-a-fuck are basically the same thing. Learn something new every day.

Kicks July 19, 2011 at 10:43 pm

Hey, man!
Saw you for the first time on Bill Maher today and you cracked me up something fierce!
I’m so glad you have a podcast because you’re funny and I’m broke!
Keep swingin’ for the blue!

Phil M'Glassup July 20, 2011 at 4:58 am

Great stuff! Came here from your Bill Maher appearance. Classic interview with a comic great. But honestly, Lewis sounds like he’s washed down a coupla quaaludes with a fifth of Jack. No offense but is all that talk of recovery on the level or was he simply tired?

Matt July 20, 2011 at 4:54 pm

Good appearances this week, I especially enjoyed your appearance as angry guy on the Green Room.

Crate&Trauma; July 20, 2011 at 7:33 pm

This reminded me a lot of the Robin Williams interview, both guys were pretty mellow and low key.  More of a real conversation, instead of the guys just riffing and doing jokes.

Joshua P July 20, 2011 at 8:53 pm

Richard Lewis looks like he could be your dad or uncle, Marc.

Robert Martin July 26, 2011 at 1:48 pm

I wish you could force Albert Brooks to show up. Did you try the publicity dept at St. Martin’s Press? 2030 deserves to be selling much better than it is, it’s probably because Brooks hasn’t made a WTF appearance.

Ann July 31, 2011 at 5:22 am

Richard Lewis - exceedingly unpleasant person, but MM handled him very well. ( I think it’s an insult to compare MM to RL.)

barny drood October 27, 2011 at 9:49 am

hey ann, insult to whom ..........marc or richard…??

I love the juxtaposition of Richard not going into a comedy club for 10 years for fear of unconsciously absorbing another comic’s material and inadvertently regurgitating it and Mencia
