Episode 192 - Paul Reiser

Comedian-writer-actor Paul Reiser reflects on a career that led him to work with the likes Peter Falk, Woody Allen, Barry Levinson and James Cameron, among others. That came after a near-miss of a career as a music composer. He also explains why a long, successful existence in show business is no protection from network-induced failure. This episode is sponsored by Sundance Selects and the new film Tabloid.

Maron, if you’re adding new merch, how about a tote bag?

I loved “Mad About You.” Thanks for having Paul Reiser on. I even listened to your podcast before Adam Carolla’s - who has Eddie Peppitone on today. I love listening to him - he’s great!

Anyway, keep up the great interviews!

Speaking of Google free food, and employee weight:
http://www.theatlantic.com/life/archive/2011/07/what-googles-famous-cafeterias-can-teach-us-about-health/241876/

If free food is available 24/7, isn’t Google creating a classic “obesogenic” environment? Do new Google employees gain weight?

Indeed, they do, and this creates a dilemma for the food team. I met with Joe Marcus, Google’s food program manager, and executive chef Scott Giambastiani. Free and very good food, they explain, is an important recruiting perk for Google. Employees learn to manage it. And those who are eating healthy food for the first time in their lives find that they actually lose weight.

I really like Paul Reiser, a lot. I’m sorry, the cancelled show was not very good. I do think they should have given it a little more time, but it really could have been much better.

James July 15, 2011 at 9:00 am

Premise of the cancelled show, stated in the introduction of the show, was really disturbing. Way more disturbing than the show itself, which seemed pretty straightforward. It’s too bad that the TV machine wouldn’t let this one grow.
Good interview though. Now I’m curious what Paul Reiser standup would be like. Probably pretty good.

Paul Reiser, I just loved the jokes played by this wonderful man. I’m very happy to have the opportunity to listen to this clip. I would say that its a great . If we talk more about Paul its a great opportunity that he have gained in his life as an actor to work with James Cameron. I still remember the Home theater seating at my grand mothers house when we watched “Avaatar” , It was simply an awesome movie. Expecting more parts of this. Thanks

Mother fucker what??! I always felt some kind of draw to your char in Alien(s) Mr Reiser and to finally find some validation of that feels somewhat good. I mean aside from this moneygrubbing jew character benefitting from being a corporate monster it seemed pretty natural yet your char brought it all together very naturally. I have to applaud you.
