I remember watching that Bob Mitchum show! I was trying to recall the name of the show. Even then I remember thinking, “This actor seems out of place.”

So far enjoying this one…

Phil Rosenthal is hilarious. Woody Allen’s movie persona is an amalgamation of Bob Hope and himself, not who he actually is, but as listened to this I kept thinking Rosenthal seems like an actual version of that. I can’t wait to see Exporting Raymond.

How’s everyone feel about the call to Adam?  I felt my own tension during it for whatever reason…

That bit with Carrolla was like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard.

Another one i thought i wouldn’t be into that much (never heard of Phil and never seen his show) but i ended up enjoying it anyway. Marc!, don’t worry about rambling at the start of the show. There is nothing wrong with being a little unstructured sometimes - calm your ‘OCD’ self . . . . .

Funny I didn’t sense any tension with carolla call that wasn’t done for comedic effect. They seem to engage each other well considering adam will steamroll the conversation with just about any topic. these guys know funny.

I have noticed a bit of the “Jewey” thing too, but I let it slide. I have some Native friends and when I’m around them a lot, I pick up a bit of the cadence of the culture too. It’s a psychological thing. If you mimic the person that you’re talking to, subconsciously they’ll like you more because you remind them of themselves. I think it fits into the comedian archetype that Marc’s been uncovering.

Phil was great! Loved this episode.

I wish Marc would stop calling people on the air, though. I guess, unless they’re like a best best friend or family.

That time with Marc and Laura calling Louis and this time calling Carrolla… it never works out well. Carrolla at least took the time to shoot the shit and be pleasant. I guess the calling on the air can make for some fun situations but it also opens it up for on-air awkwardness and disappointment. Really uncomfortable.

Lee you get that was a bit for Adam’s show?

Lee Cherolis May 23, 2011 at 8:44 am

@Crate&Trauma; - Nope. I totally didn’t get that, and I can’t tell you how glad I am to hear it wasn’t Adam giving Marc the blow off.

And I just heard the latest episode where Marc calls Ray Romano, and that turned out fine so forget what I said. That was a worthless piece of worrying and anxiety on my part.

Another great show Marc. Didn’t think I’d be that into it given that I was never a big fan of Raymond. But I really enjoyed this conversation with Phil. I learned lots about the biz. Very exciting to have this frank and open inside perspective. Makes me want to watch the show now with fresh perspective. Also very excited to see this doc about the Russian version. Sounds awesome. I love Phil’s advice: “Just make the show you want, we all get cancelled in the end. Such great advice.”
