<p>Holland and Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff says the Catalan giants need to raise their game and go back to basics.</p>Cruyff was concerned that the mistakes made against Numancia will be repeated.<br /><br />The Dutch legend outlined what he thinks needs changing and how the players should adjust their play to be able ot open up defensive teams this season.<br /><br />"What I would ask this team to do is to apply to facets to their play. To play in their positions and to maintain the rhythm," he told El Periodico in his weekly column.<br /><br />"The rhythm of the ball only needs to go up by one or two points. This starts from the back and it if happens quickly then the opposition does not have time to organise themselves.<br /><br />"If I have the ball and I pass it then I should stay. Make the best pass I can, which will be difficult because it is one or two touches, and two things should then happen; I pass the ball and maintain my position.<br /><br />"As soon as more than one player does this space opens up and then there will be opportunities created."<br /><br />Pundits suggested that Barça lacked a true left-winger, but Cruyff did not agree and cited Diego Capel’s performance for Spain to show how relying on one position can actually harm a side.<br /><br />"I do not think it is as simple as the team missing a left-sided winger. I would not look for anyone to blame like that because football is a team game , especially at Barça," he continued.<br /><br />"Spain moved the ball around like they had at the European Championships, but as soon as Capel picked it up he kept it like it was his. He did not play as part of the team. That is a sign of youth.<br /><br />"With Barça it is not about having wide players or not, but about opening up the play. The players have to keep to their positions and move the ball quickly."
