The Marc and Tom Show
Marc Maron. Tom Scharpling. Just a couple of dudes trying to figure things out, one podcast at a time.

3 lifetimes worth of changes crammed into 20 years…so true. Yet throughout the discussion…my take? No real need to think your life too far in advance ~ it’s all in the spontaneity. Keeps you in the moment ~ and it just works. Well done gentlemen…very well done.

Loves the show!

Listened all the way through. Enjoyed a lot of it. But ultimately I just couldn’t get interested in a guy who dismisses Tom Waits out of hand. So yeah. I’m dismissing someone for dismissing someone else. Perhaps a little hypocritical. But self aware.

Great episode. Anyone know what the outro music is?

I am a Tom Scharpling fan and a Tom Waits fan. It’s really ok; you are allowed to like what you like.

Loved the show Marc and Tom. Keep fighting the fight!

I love Tom Waits and Lulu. Where does that leave me? Still in love with Marc despite all the ruminations on the viability of a declining artist that may come back to haunt him someday. “Wave to the crowd Marc! Marc Maron everybody! Wasn’t he great?”

YES! Denial of Death strikes again

The only Tom Waits song that I REALLY love is Filipino Box Spring Hog. It really paints an exciting picture of a night on the town.
Lou Reed can suck it.

Joshua W.K. February 22, 2012 at 9:20 pm
Two of my favorite people together at long last.
It warms the heart….
Chuck February 22, 2012 at 10:45 pm
Fantastic. I hope Marc teams up with Tom again in the future for more episodes.
Cece February 22, 2012 at 10:59 pm
Did I hear someone say Charybdis regarding the GERD issue? Amazing! I think it was Marc.
Rhett Soveran February 23, 2012 at 12:38 am
I really loved this episode. Thanks for doing this guys.

Great show. Two of my favourite podcasters in the same room. Loved the self-deprecating tone, though Toms refusal to get personal or specific did lead to a bit vague discussion at times. Still, Tom, if you read this (as you are wont to do): you’re awesome, and this show was like listening to two good friends of mine having a funny and heartfelt conversation.

I love Tom Waits, but somehow weirdly respect Sharpling for just coming off like that.
bob February 23, 2012 at 5:16 pm
And it’s like, just like, so, like, hard to, just like, have a twitter account. Really?! Almost an hour of Marc and Tom complaining about how hard it is to have a respected podcast/stand-up career and a famous radio show/writing career? My cup of sympathy runneth over. And for someone who has been speaking on the radio for over a decade now, Tom could sure stand to listen back to himself and stop injecting “it’s just like” all over the place.

comments are ruining the world
mahashakti dasi February 25, 2012 at 6:01 am
I loved listening to you guys so much, could you do a regular show together, please?
Rick February 25, 2012 at 11:10 am
I both love Tom Waits and acknowledge that Maron’s impression was entirely accurate
Matt(midwest) February 27, 2012 at 3:09 pm
Holy shit! i made that comment about comments before listening, great show guys
I hope the powers that be run with it.
In any case, me and Tom are on the same page with the comment sections, especially facebook junk.
Anyone notice how the facebook fans are a different breed of maron commenter?
Joe Tily March 01, 2012 at 11:12 am
Loved this . . . . more please. Tom Scharpling’s voice reminded me of Eugene Mirman’s in places!

More from this duo please. And nice to hear a man of taste speak honestly about Waits (an informed diss if you will). I respect Waits but he’s one of those guys you’re expected to like because it’s good for you. When I had a several of his records it felt like work to play ‘em.
una March 09, 2012 at 11:36 am
well, because Tom isn’t going to read this..but maybe Marc will…great show you guys. loved it. i’ve got a 4 in my age, and Tom nailed it. I’m so thankful for my analog past, I have no idea. Did i really just say that? I’ve forgotten it already.

God damn it, a waste of half an hour. I guess there’s only so much you can take. These two together are on a level that i think has no merit.
