Episode 487 - Karen Kilgariff

Comedian Karen Kilgariff is no longer the person Marc remembers from their days in San Francisco, which is a good thing because back then she was battling some real demons. Karen tells Marc about the twists her career has taken since then and sings some songs to boot. Also, Bob Saget pops into the garage to compare notes on memoir writing with Marc. This episode was SO good, Marc. The layers built up to make this one of my favorites - the beginning about your family, then Saget being vulnerable and dark and uncomfortable, and that amazing interview with Karen ...jesus! She’s so grounded and funny - I loved her reflections on her younger self, her ability to not be bitter or too political about past work, and how present she was talking with you - I really liked that you were both actively listening to each other. Not all of your guests do that, and you aren’t always so in the moment. I think the timing was just right for this episode. Great work!

Agreed, an all-around entertaining episode. It was cool to learn about “that one lady from Mr. Show.” Karen Kilgariff. Now I know. Come to WTF and get the scoop. Pow! I just added a comment.

I appreciate how Linda Beighle learned to handle Charles’ irrational confrontational crap. “Yes, Papa; you’re right, Papa.”

See, folks, we’re quite capable of listening to an interview with a female guest and not turning the message boards into an ugly flame war.

Maybe the Annabelle Gurwitch and Lena Dunham supporters were wrong in their assertions that Marc Maron listeners are misogynists.

Merry Clayton is the amazing backing voice on “Gimmie Shelter.”

Marc: “Why didn’t you stay with Dave Anthony? You could have been an Irish disaster together.”
Karen: “We WERE an Irish disaster together.”

Great episode Marc. I love the intro and I love the part where you introduce Moon to your family.  This interview also made me love Karen Kilgariff even more. It’s so sad that the WGA strike destroyed the relationship between Karen and Ellen. Maybe one day they could repair their relationship. Loved the songs Karen sings at the end.

As I’m writing this comment, I’m listening to her singing on a loop grin

Karen has a great voice! Really beautiful high & low notes in there. Smart lady, great conversation.
