Episode 460 - Will Forte

Will Forte had given up on thoughts of becoming an actor when he settled down into a successful career as a television comedy writer for several hit shows. Will tells Marc how he got roped back into the performance world, what led to a completely pressure-free audition for Saturday Night Live, and why he never seriously believed he would get a role in Alexander Payne’s new film Nebraska. Today’s episode is sponsored by Hover and by Slingbox.

Usually I don’t complain about ads because I know that pimpin’ ain’t easy in entertainment…
two one minute(?) ads for Hover in the first six minutes of the show?

Charlie January 09, 2014 at 1:15 pm

I love these interviews with SNL cast members. I really hope Marc can score a Lorne Michaels interview at some point.

Agreed, entertaining free podcast, time the ads whenever you want, just keep being Maron, uploading pods and doing IFC. trust your success, great great stuff

Another great conversation.
Please do an audio montage of people doing Lorne Michaels impressions sometime.
Maron Season 1 hits Netflix about a week after I spring for it on iTunes. WTF indeed.

Great interview, Will Forte seemed like a cool dude. I definitely resonate with the ideas of OCD being a way to control your anxiety in a stressful situation. A lot of these interviews with down to earth, cool, yet flawed folks makes me feel less alone in the world. smile

Eric January 10, 2014 at 3:52 am

Great idea, Kyle.  I wouldn’t be surprised if @dequinn already had those impressions already timestamped for easy compilation.

1) Great interview. Never would have guessed Will Forte had so much depth to him. Can’t wait to see Nebraska.
2) I don’t Twitter, so I figured I’d pass this along on here. You may like this band.

Marc, for someone whose OCD symptoms are far from severe (unless there’s more you haven’t told us), you definitely speak with a poetry of language that shows you are thoroughly mindful of generalized anxiety, control issues, doubt, ritual, and self-medication.  You’d make a damn good therapist.

I love Will Forte.

I have this mental block about him and Bill Hader, though.  When I am watching or listening to Will Forte, my brain can’t remember Bill Hader.  It’s vice versa with Bill Hader.  I can’t remember Will Forte’s name or face.  It’s odd.

I don’t find them to be interchangeable and they are among my favorite comic actors…I don’t know what it is.

Hader-Forte Syndrome probably.

Will Forte is awesomely underrated (or at least he was until Nebraska). But comedy-wise, the dude is simply brilliant.

Smitty January 14, 2014 at 9:41 pm

am i crazy, or did marc keep saying swing box instead of sling box ?

Jason February 10, 2014 at 1:27 pm

Classy naming your ex-fiancee as a narcissist.

Such a great interview. I toooootally have the OCDs. I’ll do just the same things—spend three hours finding good hotels in Paris for friends of friends. Then update Goodreads for no reason other than to recommend a book to people who I barely know and promote an author who does not need my help. Then I’ll be online for two hours trying to find an injured cat a foster family. All the while I have a pile of writing to do which I don’t touch until 10pm and end up staying awake until 3am to finish my own work, depriving myself of sleep.

Then rinse and repeat.
