Damn, Marc. I go into this one not being interested in Monty Hall, or knowing much at all about him, and an hour later it’s like “That was a completely cool interview. Touching, intertesting, funny. What the fuck?” Thanks for a fun listen. Also, in your intro, I had to laugh—“And then another girl I know named Dragon.”—Precious.

Damn that was good. Got goosebumps when he talked about that guy paying for his college education and the ROI on that act of kindness. Powerful stuff.

Wow Marc, what a great interview.  I literally knew nothing of this guy (being somewhat of an idiot) and now I am enchanted with him and his story.  Bravo!  Keep up the good work as always.

Another great podcast!
I watched Mr. Hall on “Let’s Make a Deal” when I was really, really young. I didn’t know much about him, but loved hearing his story. This guy was there for the beginning of TV and we have fewer and fewer people who can tell us first-hand stories about those early days. The story about the man who paid for his education was incredible.
There are few people who do interviews as good as Marc. He’s my generation’s Tom Snyder.

Jimmy Buffett’s 1974 tribute to Monty, and Let’s Make a Deal - “Door Number Three”

Oh I took a wrong turn, it was the right turn
My turn to have me a ball
Boys at the shop told me just where to stop
If I wanted to play for it all
I didn’t know I’d find her on daytime TV
My whole world lies waiting behind door number three

I chose my apparel, I wore a beer barrel
And they rolled me to the very first row
I held a big sign that said, “Kiss me I’m a baker
And Monty I sure need the dough”
Then I grabbed that sucker by the throat until he called on me
‘Cause my whole world lies waiting behind door number three

And I don’t want what Jay’s got on his table
Or the box Carol Merrill points to on the floor
No I’ll hold out just as long as I am able
Or until I can unlock that lucky door
Well, she’s no big deal to most folk
But she’s everything to me
‘Cause my whole world lies waiting behind door number three

Oh Monty, Monty, Monty, I am walkin’ down your hall
Got beat, lost my seat, but I’m not a man to crawl
Though I didn’t get rich, you son of a bitch
I’ll be back just wait and see
‘Cause my whole world lies waiting behind door number three
Yes my whole world lies waiting behind door number three

Oh, I see this comment form apparently doesn’t allow for separate paragraphs, so everything gets all crammed together and looks like shit.  Hmm, would html code work?  Let’s see… </p>

Great show Marc - I grew up watching Monty Hall on Let’s Make a Deal.  He is very inspirational.  I love his story about his young career, his struggles, his wife and children, and his sponsor sending him to college.  I love this stuff and keep it in my mind as I go through life with my wife and 4 children.

Finally, a shout out to my home town of Halifax, N.S. Now if we could just get Marc to come here…
