Tool is Apropos August 19, 2013 at 9:08 am

So Maynard sneers at things like Ohio and hair bands, but he also believes his dream about a clearly dying Hicks evidenced a psychic connection. And, like, you gotta believe in the supernatural to make art with soul, man.

What’s tolerable in a 16 year old art student is just embarrassing in a 49 year old man.

Let me see if I can figure out the logic-connect here in the above comment:

Someone is critical of a state, perhaps a demographic. Also critical of corporate rock, ie: hair bands.

Therefor! We can logically deduce that they should not, in any way, believe in any sort of supernatural- wait, what?

Puff, puff give, sweetheart, what’s embarrassing is your leap, there. It’s not like he said he believed that fucking Ronnie J’s his totem. Allthough…that…

RE:  the above- it’s called “the 2000 degrees of logical separation”.  Holly, I agree with you,and some people think that their shit sticks to anything, just because they can fling it.  it’s akin to people, who don’t give a shit about global warming, yet don’t take into account that industry pollution, also puts out carcinogens all over the place.  so, even if global warming were bullshit, and it most certainly is not;if we were sane, we’d stop burning toxic shit that’s killing us, all by itself, apart from global climate warming.

Maynard is pretty cool. I don’t like his genre of music, but the guy himself is pretty interesting. Good sarcasm. I did wish that the interview would have touched more on the evolution of his thoughts re: Bill Hicks drug enlightenmentalism that colored a lot of his artistic output vs how he seems now; more matured, putting out AA songs.

My number one most awaited non-comedian interview was even better than I hoped for. Perfect!

Beelzebud August 19, 2013 at 7:35 pm

I’ve bugged Marc on Twitter for over a year to try to get this interview to happen!  Thanks so much to both guys for doing it.  It was a really good listen.  As a long time Tool fan, it was cool to hear about his interest and involvement in the LA comedy scene in the 90’s.  He didn’t mention it, but he and Adam (Tool’s guitarist) actually appears on an episode of Mr Show, and they’re billed as Puscifer.

A classic example of why a year or so ago I started listening to every WTF episode, not just the ones where I knew or was interested in the guest. I never was a Tool fan, but this interview was completely enjoyable. I’d like to drink wine with this guy. Thanks Marc.

Tool fans are tools August 20, 2013 at 4:41 pm

Fuck you, Marc.  How dare you speak at the beginning of your own podcast the same way you have for the last, oh I don’t know, 400 episodes.  It’s not like I can fast forward through it or anything so I’m just going to bitch about it in comments all while being a humorless dick.

Jesse August 21, 2013 at 7:52 pm

Wow.  Nice to see the tools show up.  “I’ve never listened to this podcast and don’t know the format, so I’m going to come here and bitch about Marc Maron doing what he wants on his podcast.” No one takes you or your fandom seriously outside of other Tool fans.  Please feel free to stay away in the future.

m riles August 23, 2013 at 10:43 pm

jesus christ, some of u guys bitch a lot about something you absolutely dont have to listen to.

in fact you actually have to make an effort to listen

Aubrey Dobbs September 23, 2013 at 3:32 pm

TOOL has a very diverse fan base.  Who cares if a zealous, over-anxious fan is tired of hearing Marc talk?  I would have NEVER clicked on a Marc Maron Podcast if I hadn’t seen that he was interviewing Maynard.  I’m sure that Marc is glad that many fans tuned in to hear this interview and may tune in for future interviews.  Get over yourself.
