Episode 379 - Jim Florentine

For a guy who can’t play a lick of music, Jim Florentine embodies the spirit of a Rock and Roll Comic. He tells Marc how he started out as Jammin’ Jim, how he wound up as a favorite on Howard Stern, Crank Yankers and as an opener for Andrew Dice Clay, and how he took a tragic episode of his life and found a way to help people get through their own dark times. This episode is sponsored by LegalZoom, Audible and Adam and Eve.

Good one! This is reminiscent of the classic WTF comedian-centric interviews (they’re all interesting - I’m just sayin’). Florentine was very funny and engaging.

This show was an emotional punch in the gut. Very poignant. As a person who guards his feeling it always amazes me when people are able to open up like that. On a side note I feel his pain about the “crazy girl” thing. I’m a professional in my mid 30’s and have always been attracted to woman who dwell a bit on the darkside. The women at my work, while all pleasant just don’t do it for me but give me a girl with tats, multicolored hair and some emotional baggage and I’m engaged.

what is a “great room” ?  is it simply a physical space that has good comedic acoustics.  is it a place with some “funny ghosts” associated with it.  is it a place that draws a good comedy loving crowd, with a certain level of consistency. what the hell is it ??

I think an interview with some folks at the Ernest Becker Foundation would be really useful right now.

WTF Marc? Awesome segment, been a Florentine fan for awhile now, love the show he co-hosts with Eddy Trunk- That Metal Show. Sorry for your loss Jim, man, you are someone who is put in that position to help people out of a dark place, you have been there, you are a humorist, and you are ANGRY!! Keep it up. And Marc, keep up these fuckin podcasts! This is the second one I listened too and I love em!
