Lou Adler was not the head of A&M records. That was Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, although Adler’s Ode records were distributed through A&M. Adler did direct Cheech and Chong’s “Up In Smoke,” though, while also producing everyone from Carole King to Sam Cooke.
