This is the one I’ve been waiting for. Hope shit gets real, here.

Alex August 25, 2011 at 7:42 am

I’m liking this so far but the sound is canny. Right?

Matt August 25, 2011 at 10:15 am

I thought it was my headphones but yea, sound is a little tinny. Boomer must have tripped over a knob.

Beelzebud August 25, 2011 at 10:33 am

Speaking of stupid injuries….  3 weeks ago I was preparing to head out for the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago.  On the way out the front door, my dog decided to run out to the porch.  For some reason I sort of panicked that he would just run off, and so I jumped down the step to the porch to grab him.  When I jumped down I heard a loud POP come from where my leg meets my hip.  The pain was intense, immediate, and fierce.  I blew it off, and got in the car for my 3 hour drive to Chicago.  About 30 mins into the trip the pain in my leg was unbearable, but given how much money I had wrapped up in the trip, I just kept going.  So for that weekend I limped and hobbled around Chicago with a torn muscle in my upper thigh.  Totally sucked the fun out of the trip, and was basically just an endurance test.  I passed, but I’m still bitter that I’ve gotten old enough that I can severely injure myself doing basically nothing…  What a lousy weekend that was…

James August 25, 2011 at 11:13 am

Holy hell. Doug’s Timmy and his imaginary unicorn line had me squirting tears and convulsing. God damn. Thank you so much.

Graham Wellington August 25, 2011 at 2:26 pm

Janeane Garofalo’s blowharded-ness invaded the last Stanhope interview and ruined it completely. Really looking forward to this one. Thanks Marc!

Gloria August 25, 2011 at 10:38 pm

I really want to like Doug—he’s a funny and obviously bright guy.  But man, what a selfish dick.  I guess his philosophy boils down to “fuck old people, fuck kids, fuck anyone who needs a little bit of help.”  To say that government should have no role in maintaining a basic standard of living and an individual has a right to sustenance only by the grace of another is beyond arrogant.

Cold, and bereft of human decency.  I hope it’s just part of his act.

Michael August 25, 2011 at 11:10 pm

This is my favorite episode I have heard.

Thank you for the Jeff Dunham comments.

The old “FreeCreditReport.com” guys are not a band, didn’t write the songs, and I’ve heard they don’t even actually sing or play. I think the new guys are a indeed a band… or were a band.

Davy August 26, 2011 at 12:29 am

Gloria you’re a self-righteous idiot who clearly missed Doug’s entire point.

He clearly stated that if you do something VOLUNTARILY to help people that makes you feel good and it charitable. If you’re FORCED then it’s no longer a nice thing, it’s just one group of people using violence to force you to conform to their idea of charity. That’s the really disgusting thing.

If you yourself won’t help poor kids voluntarily what fucking right do you have to tell other people what to do? And if you will help them voluntarily then why do we need the psychopaths in government to MAKE us “help?”

Perhap’s you’re unaware that the vast majority of tax money goes into corporate bailouts, bombing children abroad, imprisoning peaceful drug users etc. The government are a bunch of sick sociopaths and I respect Doug so much for making a distinction between voluntary charity and genuine ethics and the faux-bullshit of asking big government to “take care” of people (how’s that going by the way? ... fucking rediculous anyone takes that shit seriously)...

P.S. Go fuck yourself.

Joe Tily August 26, 2011 at 4:52 am

. . . . . BLORT !!
I saw Doug in April and he was pretty much the funniest and most freewheeling stand-up I’ve ever seen - Oslo: Burning The Bridge To Nowhere is a great album too . . . . cool interview Marc - a lot of laughs and a little bit of tension at the end . . . . a real treat.

eJay August 26, 2011 at 10:01 am

This episode needed more garofalo.

To say the crowd at the provenza show went quiet because garofalo is some delicate flower is bull. The audience was just straight up shocked because the story doug told is so unfathomable.  Stanhope is still the fvcking man to beat in comedy, but that shit about janeane is either a complete fabrication or some avant garde contemporary comedy bit which I haven’t figured out yet.

RB August 26, 2011 at 10:31 am

good podcast… I think doug and janeane should sit down and have a talk about what’s on his mind… and record it.

Justin August 27, 2011 at 4:57 am

I dislike Stanhope and I didn’t think his character on Louie was much of an exaggeration. Selfish hate-spewing dick.
Having said that, I appreciate the interview. It confirmed a whole lot of what I expected in the man’s character and it also showed.. other stuff. I did appreciate his honesty about Garafalo. Thanks for another great podcast.

johnathan August 27, 2011 at 7:05 am

I loved this one.  Marc was in top form and Stanhope was good too.

Graham Wellington August 27, 2011 at 1:03 pm

I feel bad for you people who are too boneheaded to entertain political ideas and sentiments that are counter to your own. You missed a hilarious and interesting podcast. Good work Marc

Beelzebud August 27, 2011 at 6:55 pm

It’s fine for people to disagree with his politics.  If he didn’t want people to engage him about it, he wouldn’t bring the shit up.

His politics does suck.  He asks why he should pay property taxes for schools that his non-existent kids won’t go to, ignoring the fact that having an educated populace is good for society as a whole.  If we treated school as a charity situation, we’d still be living in the middle ages…

Libertarians tend to be the ones that are too boneheaded to entertain ideas and sentiments that counter their free-market utopian view of the world.

Will August 27, 2011 at 7:03 pm

Wow, some interesting comments here.  This sort of negative feedback is usually reserved for the Cook/Mencia type of podcasts.  I thought Stanhope sounded kind of happy (gasp) and more positive than I’ve ever heard him, which is not a bad thing at all. I’m glad he may be turning a corner and look forward to seeing how his material may develop because of it. But I don’t think he’ll ever be in danger of turning into a happy clown, thankfully and I hope he continues to push peoples buttons for a long time to come. Come to think of it, all these hater comments are a sign that he hasn’t lost his gift to piss people off. Nice…Great interview as always.

Crate&Trauma; August 29, 2011 at 12:59 am

Let me get this straight that dumbass is questioning why the Gatis family is suing the Dodgers?  Gee Doug maybe it’s the fact that piece of shit owner of theirs decided to cut back on security, as in NO security in the parking lot.  It’s why the attackers were able to beat this guy for 15 minutes straight.

You take a sporting event, fill it with fans from two bitter rivals (Dodgers and Giants), throw in alcohol, and then don’t have any security in the parking lot?  Of course something like that was going to happen.  But hey at least we know that the McCourt’s spent 800k on their own personal security force.

That parking lot is dangerous and fights have been going on there for years.  Same thing goes for the Rose Bowl, little lighting and virtually zero security in the parking areas.

I always knew that it was going to take someone getting beat to death or close to it for something to be done.

I guess if we had government backed health care something like this wouldn’t be completely crippling for a family.  But hey I guess your libertarian fuckwad ass is against that too.

Ryan August 29, 2011 at 1:55 pm

I must admit, Doug is sounding reeeaaally ignorant right now.

You weren’t born into the world owing anybody. But do you drive on roads? Is your water cleaned? There’s a myriad of public products that you enjoy, so don’t bitch about it when you have to compensate for them. Plus you made 18,000 an episode on The Man Show? I make 32 grand a year.

You have nothing to complain about. Gargle my balls.

l.a. August 30, 2011 at 8:01 am

I love your podcasts and I like to remain open minded since all opinions help you fine tune yours and generally learn, but I’m pretty sure Doug’s main agenda is to offend.

Some wonderful highlights:

- when speaking about how he was misrepresented when hosting one volume of the Girls Gone Wild franchise he called the women on the show “stupid, drunken sorority whores”

- when talking about how he was doing a humanitarian thing by offering the homeless strippers and free beer he states that “lawyers fuck up way more stuff than censors” then he goes onto say how ridiculous the lawyers were to send a memo that said AIDS transmission would occur if any of the staff members of The Man Show were bitten

- he doesn’t believe in paying taxes, but he drives on roads, I’m assuming he likes his garbage picked up and taken away from his house, he likes the idea that if something were to happen to him or his belongings, he can call 911

- called someone faggot and then talks about how he wants a better fan base because they call each other faggot in their comments and how he wants to come out of the closet to get a better fan base

Brian the Bastard August 30, 2011 at 3:45 pm

I had no idea most WTFers were such over-sensitive whining bitches. I would say faggots but hey, someone might die or even worse, have their feelings hurt as a consequence. Personally I’m offended by the shit I hear on radio, so I choose not to listen to it. Lady Gaga for all her pretense and ego driven career as a celebrity doesn’t offend me as much as the fact that so many people don’t see through the bullshit. Same with television - it’s mostly crap and the fact that people still watch so much of it offends me. So fuckin what? It’s not threatening my life and as with my radio dilemma , I can choose to not watch it. Avoiding the audience for these shit dispensers is much more difficult, as they comprise of people. LOTS of people. I can see why Stanhope prefers to live in the middle of no-where.

So I seek out other forms of entertainment, such as a podcast like WTF where I can hear a good conversation, unbound by the social restrictions placed on most other media.  Apparently conversations can be a little bit upsetting to some people on occasion, as we’ve seen here. It might be that Doug has lived outside of mainstream society for so long that maybe he’s not in touch with how some issues affect others. I don’t give a fuck, he still entertains me intellectually even when I don’t agree with him.  When you present ideas that challenge mainstream perceptions, the true conservative nature of people begins to show and their sensitivities might tend to bruise a bit.  But all of your commenting and blogging and bitching and whining won’t change a thing. Doug’s probably somewhere laughing his ass off at a fart. And maybe that fart is you.

Matt H August 31, 2011 at 2:28 pm

Doug isn’t really clued up when it comes to politics,  but I wouldn’t expect him too be.  He isn’t an intellectual, he is a drunken road comic.  He does make some interesting points in his comedy, but even when they are bullshit at least they are hilarious.

K September 01, 2011 at 8:29 am

I was a little troubled by Doug’s politics mainly because he claimed that our day-to-day lives aren’t affected by any given administration. For a privileged, white, heterosexual male, things *are* going to be pretty good no matter who’s in charge. But as someone who comes from a state where Planned Parenthood was de-funded, I know plenty of people whose day-to-day lives were affected in a very real way.

Now, of course, he would probably argue that he shouldn’t have to pay for someone else’s birth control, etc etc, but I’m saying this because he has a blatant lack of understanding of his privilege that frustrates me. It’s easy for white dudes to be Libertarians (sorry, to “lean Libertarian,” as he said).

However, I understand why people like Brain the Bastard are getting so upset; Stanhope is still funny and we should be able to laugh at his comedy even if we don’t agree with his politics. (For the record, that’s the non-asshole way of saying that. Take note, Davy!)

This is the first episode of WTF that I could not get through in its entirety. This country and its practices are by no means perfect, but for everything to be deemed unnecessary when its derivation of funds is through taxes always seems odd to me. This is especially true when it come from someone that makes waaaaaay more money than a lot people; including me.  If he were starving or homeless through unforeseen circumstance, would that “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” idea still apply? I’d think not.
BTW, in my experience, these are always the people who ask for a discount or want to negotiate a price- always annoying.
He should get his ass to a third world nation and realized we live in the best worst country in the world.

MM is my church September 07, 2011 at 9:12 am

Yes, Stanhope, you little bitch.  You don’t want to have any part in paying for for kid’s education but you’ll definitely be cashing that fucking social security check if you live that long (not a death threat, just expect that the vitriol against children, women, poor etc you’re constantly stewing in your gut and puking out as comedy, will eventually kill you through stress related illness or self medication gone awry).  Educated kids have the potential to make more money than uneducated ones.

Listen, I don’t blame people for disliking kids.  But unless you have at least one, and have personally experienced the misery of their day in day out care, you don’t really have that entitlement.

Gee, why can’t we bring homeless whores and beer?  The lawyers were just saying in legalese, you can’t do it because it is fucking mean and perverted and the kind of entertainment you’d expect from Nazi’s or during the fall of the Roman empire.  Oh yeah, and because MICA’s (mentally ill chemical abusers) aren’t legally able to give consent, even if they’re getting free beer and a gander at shaking naked titties as compensation.  What were you getting paid to potentially mock them?  Why not just ask for legal clearance to do a show where you sling a fifth of Gregor vodka into the air and start shooting at their feet to make them dance while they run for it?  That you might have gotten clearance for, and is it really an different?

And RYAN, I would offer you a free blow job for the beautiful nugget of suggesting Stanhope “gargle my balls”, but I haven’t gotten my braces off yet.  Raincheck?

Davy September 07, 2011 at 9:42 pm

Wow who’d have thought Marc Maron fans would be so judgemental of a political philosophy they view as selfish…

Marc is a great interviewer but let’s be honest, his entire personality is complete self-involved narcissism. Completely selfish and self-absorbed.

Stanhope makes the obvious point that if you’re not willing to help people yoruself you shouldn’t prescribe government force others to pay for your prefered social programs. Real charity comes from voluntary individuals, groups and communities coming together to GENUINELY care, not lobbying corrupt politicians to divvy out stolen loot to arbitrary groups.

And to the person who said public schools create an educated populace…HAHAHAHAH… seriously?

Melanie September 14, 2011 at 2:21 pm

This Doug Stanhope gentleman is the worst, not only were his politics appalling to me.  “Taxation is slavery”...go live in a log cabin in the woods asshole and bow out of living in a community then.

Oh and did no one else notice him dropping a derogatory gay slur like it was no big thing?

Me!!! September 19, 2011 at 11:34 am

There sure are a lot of oversensitive, faggoty cunts complaining about Stanhope….

Alyn November 25, 2011 at 11:48 pm
