marc you should post a picture of you with each guest for the episode.  i dont know why but i want to stare at the picture to enhance my podcast listening.

Chalene Jaszewski June 13, 2011 at 1:11 pm

I want a picture of you with your new glasses. I’m sure they are not nearly as ogresome as you are making them out to be.

sanne June 13, 2011 at 4:17 pm

It’s true about the pics! I usually end up googling them to get a visual.

Lovin’  your podcast! You help me get through the day with interesting, funny and often touching commentary!  Oh, and btw, loving’ the new glasses;)

Scott Jones June 13, 2011 at 9:01 pm

I now only listen to the new episodes during dinner time.  Kinda odd, but it’s sorta comforting, y’know?  Yup.

Joshua P June 13, 2011 at 11:43 pm

You two have great chemistry. You ought to see if you can go on her show now… eh? Eh???

BobH June 13, 2011 at 11:57 pm

Interesting stuff on the pilot.  Best of luck with it.  I see just the mention of it got a bunch of publicity for the podcast.

Searching around, I see that Angela Trimbur posted a photo of Asner and Jeong on the “set” a few days ago:

1.  Poehler is 10 times funnier than Carrel.  Everything that Carrel has done since he left The Daily Show has been pure shit.  He even ran the Office into the ground.  Name one movie Carrel has done that is worth seeing (I can’t think of one).

2.  Marc is a condescending douchebag.  I hate to say it, but as much as I love this podcast, I only love it in spite of Marc.  He does great interviews, but he’s a dick (I always skip the opening self-obsessed spiel and go straight to the interview).  This episode is the perfect example of this (e.g. how he is condescending to Amy, without trying to look like he’s condescending but only because she’s famous now and he needs her to be on his podcast).  Fuck Marc.  And Kudos to Amy for being entirely adult and professional through this whole interview.

I really liked the podcast (I absolutely love Amy!), but I’d like if you could consider the amount you used the word ‘raped’ and ‘rape’ within it.

You weren’t using it in a way that was threatening verbally towards anyone, however it was all I could you saying for a couple of minutes there. I can understand that you were using it to punctuate what you were talking about (not to make a specific joke), I think there are other words that you could have used that would still have a good punch (plenty of foul awesome words).

I hope you can take a think about your use of the word, and consider that people may find it offensive and/or that it may hurt them [the percentage of women who have been sexually assaulted in their lives is just unacceptably high (I’m unsure of the male percentages)]. That hearing it once, it is easier to brush off, but when you use it that often, it has another effect; and with some people (myself being one of them) it gets stuck in your brain afterwards.

Anyways, the interview itself was great (: But please take what I said above seriously and not as someone who is just screeching to screech.

I don’t think Marc was condescending to Amy; you could tell that they had a history of knowing each other and being part of the same community, and I don’t think it was necessary to be super diplomatic or polite. If Marc didn’t act like Marc, the show wouldn’t be the show, and I’m sure Amy Poehler understands that, and she seemed to enjoy the whole thing.

I loved this episode, and I’m super excited about the pilot.

Marc, Great interview. I don’t know what JCar is talking about. These people are friends and like each other, WTF Jcar?
Amy is great. Wish she’d talked about Wet Hot.

Loved the analysis of the Showalter interview, that was a bonus..

DBeee! June 14, 2011 at 2:41 pm

Great, funny, intimately conversational interview, Marc. Thanks. Your thoughts are fluid and don’t seem rehearsed AT ALL, really, not AT ALL. haha. I love the way your brain works. Rock on.

Kieran Wild June 15, 2011 at 5:26 pm

I didn’t think Marc was condescending. Best of luck with the pilot it sounds like a great cast.

Great interview! Interesting listening to some of Amy’s insecurities regarding performing, considering she is so amazingly funny. To add, I didn’t sense any real form of condescension from Marc at all. That’s just fucking ridiculous.

Love the podcast.

Ms. Poehler, if you’re going to be blunt and declare there’s “something up” with me (and there is) for not having been divorced, and still single, at 40, then I’m going to go ahead and speculate out loud that you were not as sexualized as you might have imagined. One reason why I’ve always loved you as a comedian, beyond your first rate sense of humor and originality, is because my sexualization of women never got in the way with you. I watched every episode of UCB on Comedy Central—nothing; just laughter. But then that argument falls apart where it concerns Ms. Fey… and Ms. Kightlinger (whom I was cognizant of well before their popularity, fyi). So, we’re back to your argument, which is correct; and you may be happy to know I’m working on it… and the sexualization.

Great show, Marmaduke!

loafward June 16, 2011 at 7:59 pm

whoops—it helps to hear the whole show before commenting.  Alright, I’ll atone for my former erroneous assumption (Ms. Poehler’s perceived sexualization) by offering a terrific book: Judith Butler. _Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity_. New York: Routledge, 1999.
